About DICI Catheter

40 Years of Cardiac EP Expertise. One Breakthrough Invention.

DICI™ was invented, patented, and developed by John J. Cai, MD and his team — a cardiac electrophysiologist with over 40 years of clinical and research expertise, including more than 25 years in complex ablation, advanced pacing, and structural heart procedures.

Our Story

Invented by the Physician Who Needed It Most

After more than 25 years performing complex cardiac electrophysiology procedures — including endocardial and epicardial AF ablation, VT ablation, CRT implantation, His bundle pacing, and Watchman device placement — Dr. John J. Cai, MD recognized a fundamental gap that no existing technology had solved: physicians still could not directly see the cardiac structures they were treating.

Drawing on over 40 years of combined clinical and research expertise in cardiac electrophysiology, Dr. Cai and his team conceived, invented, and patented DICI as a direct optical imaging solution: a catheter that places a camera inside the heart itself, displacing blood with a transparent balloon to deliver real-time, unobstructed views of cardiac tissue during live procedures. The current prototype has demonstrated promising results in an in vitro heart model, with animal studies planned as the next milestone.

John J. Cai, MD

Inventor & Founder — Cardiac Electrophysiologist

Dr. John J. Cai is a board-certified cardiac electrophysiologist with over 40 years of clinical and research expertise in cardiac electrophysiology, including more than 25 years of hands-on experience in complex interventional EP procedures. His career spans the full spectrum of advanced cardiac electrophysiology — from complex atrial fibrillation ablation (endocardial and epicardial mapping and ablation) and ventricular tachycardia ablation, to advanced pacemaker implantation including cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), His bundle pacing, leadless pacemaker implantation, and structural heart procedures including Watchman left atrial appendage closure. His extensive research background, combined with decades of frontline procedural experience, gave him a uniquely informed perspective on the imaging limitations that affect outcomes in complex cardiac interventions — and the vision to design a solution from the ground up. Dr. Cai invented, patented, and developed the DICI catheter alongside his team.

Our Mission

Giving Physicians the Vision They've Always Needed

"DICI exists because the most skilled cardiac electrophysiologists in the world still operate without being able to directly see what they are treating. We are building the technology to change that — one procedure at a time."

What Drives Us

Our Core Values

Clinical First

DICI was conceived in the EP lab, not a boardroom. Every design decision is grounded in the real procedural challenges faced by interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists.

Uncompromising Quality

We hold ourselves to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance — because our devices operate where there is no margin for error.

Evidence-Based Innovation

Our development process is grounded in clinical data, physician feedback, and rigorous testing. We innovate with purpose, not novelty.

Partnership with Clinicians

We work alongside the physicians who use our devices — in the lab, in training, and in the field — to continuously improve our technology.

Development Status & Regulatory

Held to the Highest Standards

The DICI Catheter System meets rigorous global standards for safety, performance, and quality. Our regulatory and quality credentials reflect our commitment to clinical excellence at every level.

Investigational Device
DICI is currently an investigational medical device under development. It is not yet cleared or approved by the FDA and is not available for commercial clinical use.
ISO 13485 Quality System
Our quality management system is designed to meet ISO 13485, the international standard for medical device manufacturers.
ISO 10993 Biocompatibility
All materials intended for patient contact are being evaluated for compliance with ISO 10993 biocompatibility standards.
200+ Clinical Sites
DICI is being developed with input from physicians at more than 200 clinical sites across North America and Europe.
